United States: CFWIJ is saddened by the tragic demise of Lynn Murray
/March 27, 2021- Former photo director for “Hearst” and “Conde Nast”, a loving wife for 26 years and mother of two, Lynn Murray was one of the ten victims of the shooting in King's grocery store, Boulder Colorado on March 22. Murray was inside the store on a food delivery run when the shooting began. She was working for Instacart, an app service that people use to get groceries delivered at home. Murray was a founding member of Marie Clair’s U.S.premier issue in 1994 and contributed hard to its success. In her career, Lynn also worked for Cosmopolitan and Glamour magazine. She was energetic and friendly as described with her friends. CFWIJ is appalled by the tragic news of her death. We demand that the state immediately address its gun control laws and take necessary measures to stop the violence.
A family friend of Lynn, Hope Cotton ran into her at the grocery store on the unfortunate day of the shooting. Hope shared the last moments of their meeting how they chatted about food and Lynn was smiling. Hope left the store earlier and was the one who contacted Lynn’s family when the news of the shooting at the store broke. Hollywood Life’s chief editor Bonnie Fuller mourned the loss of Lynn and described her as the most hardworking and fun person to work with. Fuller shared, “Lynn Murray, who I worked with at Marie Claire, Cosmopolitan & Glamour magazines was the most lovely, talented, hardworking and fun Photo Director. She made eye-catching covers and fabulous fashion shoots happen. Photographers and their agents loved her & so did the staff”.
Murray was raised in Ohio. After graduating from Ohio University, Murray moved to Newyork, Florida, and Colorado while working through the years. Chief content officer at Conde Nast, Katie Lewis shared the note with her team to commemorate Lynn. Katie described her as “ She was a talented and creative colleague, a friend and a mentor for many.” Murray’s family mourns her loss. Her husband John Mackenzie and Olivia shared that Lyn shared how they did not want to believe the news at first. The family knowing that Lynn was inside, ran to the store after the news of the shooting. Lyn’s daughter Olivia shared how she was hoping that her mom may have hidden somewhere or maybe her phone was just broken. But then they heard the tragic news that Lynn Murray was one of the victims. Olivia remembers her mother as a selfless and caring human being.
The Coalition For Women In Journalism is saddened by the loss of Lynn Murray and offers condolences to her family. She was indeed a hardworking and celebrated photo director. We also demand that the state authorities immediately address the policy around its gun control program to end this sort of violence. So no family loses their loved one in such a tragic way.
